VALHALLA
THE EXPECTATIONS
Colin wasn’t very malleable. He couldn’t be formed into a mold and he couldn’t adhere to norms and ideals imposed on him by authority if he didn’t see their merit.
Colin’s personal interests didn’t align with post-secondary pursuits, so he didn’t have a wall of framed professional designations, college degrees or accolades.
Colin embarked on a life-long journey of collecting experiences. He had many stories to tell.
This is a collection of Colin’s Iconography - a few of his identity-building symbols, combined with 1980s iconic advertisements - an era which heavily influenced his own future advertising work.
THE SHADES
COLIN FIRTH x RAY-BANS COLLAB
Ray-Bans and Colin Firth - a pairing that you’d expect when seeing Colin out and about.
Colin preferred Wayfarers at the start - even wearing a pair to his wedding.
In the early 1990s, Colin adopted the Aviators style that he represented for over 30 years.
THE JEANS
Colin took great care in his Levi’s collection. Straight Leg, light wash were his specialty.
On beautiful summer weekends, it was not uncommon for Colin to wash his jeans.
Each patio chair would come out of the garage and be placed strategically in the sun. Colin would then take the jeans out of the washing machine and drape each set over the back of each chair.
This was an hours-long ordeal, as Colin would have to pay attention to the direction of the sun, and move the chairs to maximize their sun exposure.
If you were to enter the backyard and see chairs arranged in a circle with pants draped over them, you’d get the impression that you were interrupting a very quiet and serious meeting.
Thus began the COUNCIL OF DENIM.
THE SQUIRRELS
Squirrels know their way around the garage, which Colin kept heated and tidy. Naturally, it was a great place for them to nest.
After chewing out the wires in the Ford Focus one cold winter weekend (complete computer failure), Colin had enough. He bought a live trap and declared war.
The squirrels were trapped and released out of town for years.
Colin knew they would find their way back, but wanted to give them a character-building journey along the way.

THE FLAG
Colin had a fierce love for all things Canada, especially the Canadian flag.
Colin’s closet had at least five sweaters with CANADA written on it in block letters.
He stuck Canadian flags on his car, and said that the only tattoo he would ever get would be a Maple leaf.
He did, however, hate flagpoles. And had a years-long conflict with the noisy pole he mounted to the balcony. On particularly windy nights, he’d wake up from the flag’s movements, and would often use duct tape to prevent any noisy metal-on-metal contact.
